A NOD TO STYLE – 5 OF THE COOLEST PLACES YOU CAN RIDE

Written by Jonathan B on 12th June, 2018

Sometimes the best way to travel is by stepping out of your comfort zone and heading somewhere new. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to come home with some great stories, keep these 5 places in mind when selecting your next holiday destination:

New Zealand

There aren’t many cooler places to cycle than Queenstown; the adventure capital of the world. Located at the bottom of the South Island, Queenstown is notorious for its adrenaline filled experiences.

Whilst this is undoubtedly an area of New Zealand you have to visit; the rest of the country also provides cyclists with breath-taking routes and spectacular landscapes around every corner. Wanaka, Mt. Cook and the Franz Joseph Glacier are all popular tourist spots that are worth visiting. Be sure to give yourself a few weeks to fully explore this impressive country.

India

Cycling in India is an experience unlike any other. The country’s rich culture and scenic landscape allows for a unique travelling experience. Kerala, a popular destination on the Malabar Coast, is one that is best explored on bike. The palm tree-lined canals and famous backwaters are a must see.

You may, however, be more inclined to plan a trip further North towards New Delhi. Just a short flight from the capital is the magnificent Warila Pass sitting at 5195 metres; a challenging but rewarding ride for any keen cyclists.

Mallorca

Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, travelling with friends or on a family holiday, there’s a reason why Mallorca is regarded as the best place to cycle in the world.

Stretching for just under 90km, the Serra de Tramuntara at the top of the sunny Balearic Island offers something for all levels of riders and is one of the most popular destinations in Mallorca. If you make the trip, you will appreciate why it was awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO in 2011.

Israel and Jordan

The shore of the Dead Sea sits at -430 metres; the lowest place on Earth. Surely it doesn’t get cooler than this?

With historical landmarks and new discoveries around every corner, cycling between towns in Israel and Jordan provides riders with a unique experience. Jerusalem and Tel Aviv offer lively city environments whilst the expansive deserts and impressive canyons provide challenging but scenic cycling conditions. Keep in mind that November-January is the best time to visit the Middle East due to the fierce heat throughout the rest of the year.

Japan

The final destination on the list and possibly the coolest of them all. The Noto Peninsula stands out as an iconic area to cycle. Along this ride you’ll experience everything Japan has to offer with hot springs, authentic food, temples, forests and incredible views of the Japanese Alps along the way.

Each of these destinations offers you the chance to explore new countries and immerse yourself in their cultures. Don’t forget to pack the camera and a memory card – or two.
