Forget blue Monday and the freezing January temperatures. If you want to cling on to the summer sunshine and warm breeze, then our destination of the month should get you reaching for the short sleeved jersey and suncream.
Tenerife. This is the island of Eternal Spring and to cyclists, that is music to our ears. Mount Teide, the island’s domineering volcano influences the climate so that the temperatures aren’t quite as hot as mainland Spain, but of course offers great cycling weather. Don’t take our word for it alone though, most of the Grand Tour teams train in Tenerife readying themselves for the following season. Winters are extremely mild and autumn and spring offer beautiful sunshine with a cool north Atlantic breeze.
The beauty of Tenerife too is its diversity. You can experience some incredible climbing and descending, mainly through the Teide National Park, but you can also spend time lazily pedalling along the coast, or enjoying the numerous cafe rides around the island. And that is why Tenerife is so revered. Whether you’re a Chris Froome wannabe or just looking or some enjoyable riding with your friends, come and enjoy some autumn or winter sunshine.
