If you're a foodie, this is the holiday for you. Catalonia offers unrivalled cuisine from local hearty dishes to some of the best seafood imaginable. The tour includes a cooking class from a local chef where you will eat what you prepare, evening meals including one in a mountain top restaurant, as well as a lunch in a 700 year old market square. The food is delectable and so we include the best local dinners, not to mention, the liqueur, wine and olive oil tasting in local farmhouses. 

You will ride small and manageable distances allowing you to enjoy the food, immerse yourself in the rich culture of the region and enjoy the magnificent medieval villages, all under Mediterranean blue skies.   
DAY 1Arrival

The best airport to arrive into is Girona airport and from there, we will transfer you the 20 minute journey to Girona city centre to start your trip. If you prefer to arrive into Barcelona, please let us know.

DAY 2Olot to Sant Miquel de Pineda

After a short transfer to Olot, your adventure into the heart of Catalonia begins. Your first ride starts in Garrotxa where you will be cycling over ancient volcanoes and through farmland, known as La Fagenda. This unique combination of landscapes have formed an oak and beech tree forest which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It's the perfect place for you enjoy a ride as you cycle through cool and quiet woodland.

Today's cycling is approximately 22km with an ascent of 350m.

DAY 3Sant Miquel de Pineda Loop

Staying in the La Garrotxa region, today's ride leads you up into the mountains and  the Rectoria. You'll ride as small climb up to Vento, upon which you'll come across a hidden hotel and restaurant in the mountains overlooking Olot. This is your lunch stop before you descend down the valley leading to the hidden paradise of Gorges Moli dels Murris. You will be greeted by the glistening waters of the lake, set within the quiet surroundings of the forest.

Today's cycling is approximately 25km with an ascent of 650m.

DAY 4Sant Miquel de Pineda to Girona

Today you will ride the Greenway path, a disused railway line offering you traffic free roads. The path stretches from the mountains to the coast, dissecting rural land and ancient volcanoes. You will cycle back into Girona to enjoy one of its best restaurants, offering delicious local cuisine served in a buzzing atmosphere.

Today's cycling is approximately 42km with a total ascent of 195m.

DAY 5Discovering Medieval Villages

Southern Emporda is a haven for medieval villages and ruins. Noted for their wine and olive oil production, the villages are brimming with character. You will enjoy gentle riding today stopping off to explore these hamlets as you ride from hilltop to hilltop.  

Today's cycling is approximately 25km with a total ascent of 300m.

DAY 6Circular Vall de Llèmena

It's the final day of cycling today and it is one of the most enjoyable in the region. Vall de Llemena is your first stop. It's a natural, peaceful and agricultural haven and a perfect place to relax and simply take in its beauty. For lunch we recommend somewhere in the village of Canet d'Adri for traditional tapas to fuel the afternoon ride.   

Today's cycling is approximately 30km with a total ascent of 400m. 

DAY 7Departure

Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before we pick you up for transfer to the airport. If you want to stay longer in Girona or elsewhere in Catalonia, just let us know as all our itineraries are fully flexible. 


The stunning medieval city of Girona is the jewel in northern Catalonia’s crown. Your ride begins here and takes in the stunning Catalonia hills and coastlines. The region offers superb dining, cultural exploration and magical cycling.


The weather in Catalonia makes it one of the reasons why it has become such a popular cycling destination. The cycling season can begin as early as March and April which offers cool Spring riding. The summer is warm but not usually sweltering like some other Mediterranean destinations and the Autumn cycling season can last sometimes until late November. 


Your accommodation will be a combination of hotels and a local farmhouse.
You will be met and collected at Girona airport on your arrival and be provided with a transfer back to the airport on your final day. There is also the possibility of being met at Barcelona if you prefer although this is a longer transfer.  
Your stay will be bed and breakfast in the hotels but we have also included 4 evening meals in some of the best local restaurants in Catalonia, as well as a lunch in a 700 year old market square.  
is a self guided holiday allowing you to explore Catalonia at your own pace. The holiday includes daily rides, 5 in total which will be provided to you along with route books, maps and GPS. These will be sent to you once you have booked your holiday with Love Velo and each file will be titled with a short description of the ride and the distance. If you would like to see the profile of each route, we recommend that you download the files before your holiday and open them with a GPS viewer such as this. If you would like guiding instead, please just ask our cycle experience team.  
Your bags will be collected when you move hotel and taken from your accommodation to the next night’s accommodation. We suggest you keep a day bag with you for all your essentials. 
You will enjoy a cooking class courtesy of a local chef and enjoy the meal you helped prepare.

You wine and olive oil tasting will be hosted at Local Market,  one of the most chic delicatessens in Girona. Get a taste for some of the local wines and olive oils..
One of the highlights of the holiday is enjoying Ratafia tasting in farmhouse. Ratafia is a local liqueur only made in Catalunya. With no set recipe and over 40 ingredients that have to be harvested at different times of the year, it is a complicated drink to produce. Enjoy some of the different varieties under the guidance of the owner of the house and Ratafia connoisseur.
You will want to know that your bike is in great condition and that you won’t have any mechanical problems during your ride. Our bikes are extremely well serviced and maintained but in the very unlikely event there is a mechanical issue with the bike (not including basic maintenance such as slipped chains or punctures), we will provide you with an emergency number for someone to come out and repair or replace your bike.
We have the best road bikes available for hire for your holiday. Simply advise your preferred options and components and we can match the right bike for you. Our essential bike for riding in Gran Canaria is a full carbon road bike with Ultegra groupset but we can upgrade or provide mountian, hybrid and e-bikes. If you would like, you can upgrade your bicycle to a full carbon with Dura Ace or DI2 electric gearing, or to our top specification bicycle - a full carbon road bike with DI2s, upgraded wheels and ultra stiff frame.
Your bike will come equipped with essential tools for you to repair a puncture, replace an inner tube or fix a slipped chain.  
Travel to Spain is not included but please ask our cycling experience team if you would like us to book flights for you to Girona or Barcelona. 
We consider travel insurance to be essential. Accordingly, it is a condition of making a booking through us that you have suitable insurance cover for the booking you have made and any activities which you expect to take part in. This insurance as a minimum should cover cancellation, baggage loss, accidents and health issues while you are away. We also recommend that you take your policy details with you when you travel. Please ask our cycling experience team if you would like us to arrange travel insurance for you.
