Come and explore the tranquil Oxfordshire countryside by bike. Staying on the edge of Blenheim Park, you can ride through quaint villages, typical English market towns and spend the evening in a luxury hotel converted from a 13th Century inn.
Holiday Itinerary

Make your way to Woodstock and check in to the hotel. Your bike will be delivered to you today so spend the day on the bike discovering Blenheim Park, Blenheim Palace or ride along the river Glynne.

The following couple of days offer a great chance to really immerse yourself in the countryside. Cycle through the Wychwood National Nature Reserve, visit sleepy market towns and stop for tea en route. We will provide routes in both pdf and gpx formats for you to follow.

On your final day, we will pick the bike up whilst you make your way home.

Home to Blenheim Palace, Blenheim Park offers the chance to cycle through the park, have a picnic on the banks of the River Glynne and enjoy the quiet, gentle surroundings of the Oxfordshire countryside.

Ride out to the Wychwood National Nature Reserve, have tea in one of the typically English market towns or explore the Cotswolds.

The best time to cycle in the UK is between March and October. Spring and Autumn are a lovely time to ride when often the air is crisp and so long as you’re wearing the right equipment, exploring the great British countryside at this time can be a delight. Summer is of course an ideal time to go cycling and whilst July & August tend to be the warmest months, both May and September often offer great weather to ride. The cold winter months between November and February are best avoided although they can be cycled with the correct winter equipment.

Your stay will be at the 4* MacDonald Bear Hotel in Woodstock. Set on the banks of the river Glynne, this is the perfect base to explore Oxfordshire. We can also upgrade your room or offer single occupancy, subject to availability. Just ask our cycling experience team when you make your enquiry.
Your stay will be bed and breakfast but we can upgrade to half or full board on request. Just ask our cycling experience team when you make your enquiry.
The holiday is a self guided holiday allowing you to explore Oxfordshire at your own pace. We know the area very well and have put together some recommended routes in GPX format which allows you to download these to most GPS enabled devices, and with certain software, to your smartphone. These will be sent to you once you have booked your holiday with Love Velo and each file will be titled with a short description of the ride and the distance. If you would like to see the profile of each route, we recommend that you download the files before your holiday and open them with a GPS viewer such as this. We also have our routes in PDF if you prefer a hard copy.
If you choose not to have a guide, you will want to know that your bike is in great condition and that you won’t have any mechanical problems during your ride. Our bikes are extremely well serviced and maintained but in the very unlikely event there is a mechanical issue with the bike (not including basic maintenance such as slipped chains or punctures), we will provide you with an emergency number for someone to come out and repair or replace your bike.
The bike you will rent to explore Oxfordshire is a touring Dawes Karakul or Gazelle Chamonix. If you would like, you can upgrade your bicycle to a mountain bike if you want to spend more time off road, or a road bike if exploring the country lanes. Choose from either a Kona Blast mountain bike or a Kona aluminium road bike and have a GPS fitted. The bike comes with cages and a tool kit for puncture repairs.
Your bike will come equipped with essential tools for you to repair a puncture, replace an inner tube or fix a slipped chain.
Travel to Oxfordshire is not included but please ask our cycling experience team if you would like us to book any train or other travel to Oxfordshire.
