TRIP HIGHLIGHT WHAT WE LOVE

Ever since Wordsworth penned odes to this wondrous region, the Lake District’s charm has been a magnet for people from across the world to explore the national park. For a cyclist, the panoramic views such as that from Ambleside across Windermere, the craggy mountains and glistening lakes are a world away from city life and offer an unrivalled UK escape.
Holiday Itinerary

Check in to your hotel, soak up the scenery that inspired so many Romantic poets to pen literary works of art and relax. We will drop the bike off at the hotel and then the great outdoors is your playground.

This is a self guided ride and we have the perfect routes for you to explore the stunning Lake District from the hotel in Lake Windermere. If you want to explore the road cycling, our routes are in GPX and take you out to Coniston Water, Keswick and beyond. If you prefer to explore the off road, there are miles and miles of bridleways, tracks and trails in this incredible area. At the end of your trip, we will pick up your bike.

This is the perfect place for the family to discover just how fabulous cycling in the UK can be.

AREA
INFORMATION

The Lake District National Park is a special place. Its abundant wildlife, stunning scenery and serenity inspired poets such as William Wordsworth. Cool clear lakes stretch out at the bottom of lush green hillsides filled with daffodils.

Put simply, the lakes and tarns give the Lake District a quality found nowhere else in England.

Weather
INFORMATION

Wet weather brings about lush green valleys and is what feeds the lakes and rivers and also provides some of the best mountain biking in the UK. The temperature is quite mild for its position and as long as you have the right clothing and equipment, there are few better places to cycle in the UK.

Your stay will be at the 4* MacDonald Old England Hotel on Lake Windermere, one of the finest Windermere hotels. Just ask our cycling experience team when you make your enquiry.
Your stay will be bed and breakfast but we can upgrade to half or full board on request. Just ask our cycling experience team when you make your enquiry.
The holiday is a self guided holiday allowing you to explore the Lake District at your own pace. We know the area very well and have put together some recommended routes in GPX format which allows you to download these to most GPS enabled devices, and with certain software, to your smartphone. These will be sent to you once you have booked your holiday with Love Velo and each file will be titled with a short description of the ride and the distance. If you would like to see the profile of each route, we recommend that you download the files before your holiday and open them with a GPS viewer such as this. We also have our routes in PDF, as well as the Lake District National Parks Cycle Routes for some great off road trails.
If you choose not to have a guide, you will want to know that your bike is in great condition and that you won’t have any mechanical problems during your ride. Our bikes are extremely well serviced and maintained but in the very unlikely event there is a mechanical issue with the bike (not including basic maintenance such as slipped chains or punctures), we will provide you with an emergency number for someone to come out and repair or replace your bike.
The bike you will rent to explore the Lake District will be a high quality mountain bike by either Specialised or Scott. The bike is hard tailed and features front suspension and 24 gears, suitable for the easier trails in the area. We also provide children’s bicycles for families. We do have options to upgrade your bicycle so click on the upgrade options below to find out more.
If you want anything from gel saddles to the hire of an electric bike, just ask our cycling experience team when you make your enquiry.
Your bike will come equipped with essential tools for you to repair a puncture, replace an inner tube or fix a slipped chain.
Travel to the Lake District is not included but please ask our cycling experience team if you would like us to book any train or other travel to the Lakes.
We consider travel insurance to be essential. Accordingly, it is a condition of making a booking through us that you have suitable insurance cover for the booking you have made and any activities which you expect to take part in. This insurance as a minimum should cover cancellation, baggage loss, accidents and health issues while you are away. We also recommend that you take your policy details with you when you travel. Please ask our cycling experience team if you would like us to arrange travel insurance for you.
Bicycle helmet hire is not included in the price but we can include this for you at a very small charge. Love Velo recommends the use of a bicycle helmet on all rides. Please click here for advice on wearing helmets from our partner, British Cycling.
This is a self guided holiday but we can arrange half day or full day guiding for you to get the most out of your Lake District cycling experience.
If you want to explore the tougher trails and bridleways of the Lakes, upgrade to a Cube, Merida or Scott bike with hard tail, disc brakes and front suspension
Our highest specification bike will be either a Mondraker, Merida or Scott. It is equipped with disc brakes and both front and rear suspension.
