Quinta da Lago is a beauitful picturesque resort and the ideal place to discover cycling with friends or your family. Quiet resort roads means you are mostly away from traffic and the resort leads directly out to the beautiful Ria Formosa National Park. Cycle, explore and relax on the beach to make this an Algarve holiday with a bike rather than a cycling holiday. For the more adventurous, we have routes that go far and wide into the beautiful Algarve countryside and great bikes to match. This is offered as a self guided holiday but we can offer guiding on request.
Upon arrival in Faro, Love Velo will be waiting to take you to the Quinta do Lago resort. Check in, relax and discover the beautiful resort.
Once you have your bike, use one of Love Velo's routes to explore the Algarve. Head north to the lush hillsides or east and immerse yourself in the Ria Formosa National Park. Ride through trails, across the lagoon islands and enjoy the area's natural beauty. We will provide you with GPX and PDF maps for you to get the most of your time in this beautiful coastal region.
On departure, we will pick your bike up and take you back to the airport.
The southern most coastline in Europe offers more than just sandy beaches and golf. Head inland to find the Serra de Monchique, a rolling mountain range with slopes made up of deciduous oaks, chestnut woods and dazzling colours in the autumn. Ride out to historic fortified towns, quaint fishing villages or simply soak up the natural beauty of the Ria Formosa National Park.
There is never a bad time to visit the Algarve as it offers year round sunshine. The autumn months of September and October are a great time to visit but whether you’re looking for some temperate winter sunshine a warm Spring or Autumn cycle or a hot summer, the Algarve rarely lets you down.
The holiday is a self guided holiday allowing you to explore the Algarve and Ria Formosa National Park at your own pace. We know the area very well and have put together some recommended routes in GPX format which allows you to download these to most GPS enabled devices, and with certain software, to your smartphone. These will be sent to you once you have booked your holiday with Love Velo and each file will be titled with a short description of the ride and the distance. If you would like to see the profile of each route, we recommend that you download the files before your holiday and open them with a GPS viewer. If you would like guiding instead, please just ask our cycle experience team.
If you choose not to have a guide, you will want to know that your bike is in great condition and that you won’t have any mechanical problems during your ride. Our bikes are extremely well serviced and maintained but in the very unlikely event there is a mechanical issue with the bike (not including basic maintenance such as slipped chains or punctures), we will provide you with an emergency number for someone to come out and repair or replace your bike.
The bike we will provide for you to explore the Algarve is a 21 speed touring bike. It is equipped with V brakes, front suspension and comfortable saddle. You can upgrade your bicycle to a fabulous aluminium framed road bike or mountain bike. Both are Giant bikes equipped with Shimano components. The road bike has Mavic wheels and Hutchinson tyres and the mountain bike has front and rear suspension.
