Lanzarote has established itself as one of the most popular winter cycling destinations. With pristine roads and very little traffic, the volcanic island has almost ideal conditions for road riding and mountain biking. The weather is usually great and with a light wind to keep you cool, you will find yourself enjoying an almost perfect cycling destination. This is offered as a self guided holiday but we can offer guiding on request.
Our Lanzarote cycling holidays are completely bespoke and we are able to organise anything you need on the island. Upon arrival, Love Velo will be waiting to take you to the hotel. Check in, relax and pick up your bicycle.
For road riders, we have the perfect routes for you which we will provide you in electronic format. Discover some of the best riding in the Canaries by yourself or with friends and if you prefer group or individual guiding, we can organise that too. Please just let us know what type of riding you would like to do on your holiday.
Lanzarote offers almost pristine tarmac. The roads are in great condition with very little traffic and the island is much flatter than its neighbours, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. There are still climbs but you can also enjoy long and spectacular undulating roads.
As Lanzarote doesn't have any tall mountains, there are very few clouds that hover over the island. It has the most consistent temperature of all of the Canary islands making it perfect for winter sun. You've probably heard about the wind and Lanzarote can be extremely windy, certainly in the middle of summer. It is however less windy in the winter meaning any wind that does blow brings a welcome cool breeze to your cycling
The holiday is a self guided holiday allowing you to explore Lanzarote at your own pace. We know the area very well and have put together some recommended routes in GPX format which allows you to download these to most GPS enabled devices, and with certain software, to your smartphone. These will be sent to you once you have booked your holiday with Love Velo and each file will be titled with a short description of the ride and the distance. If you would like to see the profile of each route, we recommend that you download the files before your holiday and open them with a GPS viewer. If you would like guiding instead, please just ask our cycle experience team as we can organise individual or group guided rides.
If you choose not to have a guide, you will want to know that your bike is in great condition and that you won’t have any mechanical problems during your ride. Our bikes are extremely well serviced and maintained but in the very unlikely event there is a mechanical issue with the bike (not including basic maintenance such as slipped chains or punctures), we will provide you with an emergency number for someone to come out and repair or replace your bike.
The bike you will rent to explore Lanzarote is a Trek Madone 2.1. The bike is equipped with Shimano 105 groupset. If you would like, you can upgrade your bicycle to a Trek Emonda S5 with a mix of Shimano Ultegra and 105 groupset.
