Situated in the hills of Monchique, this is the ideal antidote to the flocks of cyclists in Mallorca. The road cycling (and mountain biking) is epic with the Volta a Portugal coming through the area. The roads are used by Cube to test their road bikes and we can assure you of some incredible riding. What makes this even better is the 5* spa resort at incredibly low prices. If you haven't ridden in Portugal yet, you've got to try this.
Upon arrival in Faro, Love Velo will be waiting to take you to Monchique, an hour or so into the hills. Check in, relax and discover the beautiful 5* resort which has an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, sensuous spa, wellness rooms and a great restaurant and terrace, not to mention all the cyclign facilities you could require.
We will arrange for your bike to be delivered directly to the hotel and there is a bike workshop if you need any adjustments made to the bike.
We will provide you with GPX files for you to explore this stunning area and the amazing climbs and roads it offers. If you fancy hitting the beaches, head south towards Portimao for some hustle and bustle, or venture 30km west to the Atlantic coast and Aljezur with miles and miles of golden sands with just a smattering of locals enjoying the surf. To climb, head inland and just enjoy the Serra de Monchique mountain range.
On departure, we will pick your bike up and take you back to the airport.
The mountains and west coast of Portugal offers a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the Algarve's thronging beaches. You will stay inland in the Serra de Monchique, a rolling mountain range with slopes made up of deciduous oaks, chestnut woods and dazzling colours. Your rides will take you out onto roads used by the pros and tested by bike manufacturers, and towards the quiet west coast beaches where the only noise comes from waves lapping at the shore.
There is never a bad time to visit Portugal as it offers year round sunshine. The autumn months of September and October are a great time to visit but whether you’re looking for some temperate winter sunshine a warm Spring or Autumn cycle or a hot summer, this area rarely lets you down.
The holiday is a self guided holiday allowing you to explore the Algarve at your own pace. We know the area very well and have put together some recommended routes in GPX format which allows you to download these to most GPS enabled devices, and with certain software, to your smartphone. These will be sent to you once you have booked your holiday with Love Velo and each file will be titled with a short description of the ride and the distance. If you would like to see the profile of each route, we recommend that you download the files before your holiday and open them with a GPS viewer. If you would like guiding instead, please just ask our cycle experience team.
If you choose not to have a guide, you will want to know that your bike is in great condition and that you won’t have any mechanical problems during your ride. Our bikes are extremely well serviced and maintained but in the very unlikely event there is a mechanical issue with the bike (not including basic maintenance such as slipped chains or punctures), we will provide you with an emergency number for someone to come out and repair or replace your bike.
