Catalonia is home to stunning coast lines, medieval towns, rugged coves and bustling fishing villages. Throw in a gorgeous climate, tapas to die for and plenty of great reds and you have the recipe for a superb cycling holiday. Come and spend a few days discovering quite how fabulous this region is for a cycling holiday with friends and family. This trip can be reduced from 6 to 4 nights so please ask if you prefer that.
Arrive in Barcelona or Girona and we will be waiting to take you to the hotel. Check in and relax or explore the wonderful medieval town of Girona. You can pick up your bicycle the day you arrive and your meeting point is located a few hundred metres from the hotel.
This is a self guided holiday so you have the freedom to explore this wonderful region. We have a number of routes, available in GPX and PDF for you to follow and these will be sent to you before you depart. Take in Lake Banyoles, explore Girona's surrounding villages, ride down to the coast for some tapas in Sant Grau or visit the old port town of Sant Feliu de Guixols.
After what we hope will be a fabulous time in Catalonia, we will take you back to the airport for your return flight home.
The stunning medieval city of Girona is the jewel in northern Catalonia’s crown. From its gothic architecture to the shimmering River Onyar, this is a city that offers superb dining, cultural exploration and perfect base to ride through Catalonia or enjoy the Girona Festival of Cycling.
The weather in Girona makes it one of the reasons why so many professional riders base themselves here. The cycling season can begin as early as March and April which offer cool Spring riding. The summer is warm but not usually sweltering like some other Mediterranean destinations and the Autumn cycling season can last sometimes until late November.
You will be met and collected at Girona airport on your arrival and be provided with a transfer back to the airport on your final day. There is also the possibility of being met at Barcelona if you prefer although this is a much longer transfer.
The holiday is a self guided holiday allowing you to explore Girona and the surrounding areas at your own pace. We know the area very well and have put together some recommended routes in GPX format which allows you to download these to most GPS enabled devices, and with certain software, to your smartphone. These will be sent to you once you have booked your holiday with Love Velo and each file will be titled with a short description of the ride and the distance. If you would like to see the profile of each route, we recommend that you download the files before your holiday and open them with a GPS viewer such as this. If you would like guiding instead, please just ask our cycle experience team.
If you choose not to have a guide, you will want to know that your bike is in great condition and that you won’t have any mechanical problems during your ride. Our bikes are extremely well serviced and maintained but in the very unlikely event there is a mechanical issue with the bike (not including basic maintenance such as slipped chains or punctures), we will provide you with an emergency number for someone to come out and repair or replace your bike.
We consider travel insurance to be essential. Accordingly, it is a condition of making a booking through us that you have suitable insurance cover for the booking you have made and any activities which you expect to take part in. This insurance as a minimum should cover cancellation, baggage loss, accidents and health issues while you are away. We also recommend that you take your policy details with you when you travel. Please ask our cycling experience team if you would like us to arrange travel insurance for you.
