There’s an exclusive group of road cyclists that know about Andorra but don’t want to let the secret out. Nestled between France and Spain, within the magnificent Pyrenees, Andorra is still a hidden gem in the cycling world.
Whilst the European principality might not offer the world-renowned climbs of its French and Spanish neighbours, it’s appeal lies elsewhere. Boasting equally challenging and equally stunning ascents to those in the French and Spanish Pyrenees, but with considerably fewer tourists, there are few places like Andorra. Conquer La Coma D’Arcalis (2240m) and the Coll de la Rabassa (2037m) in 2019 and never speak of it again through fear of letting the secret out!

Mallorca
As the most popular place to cycle in 2018, Mallorca once again proved why it holds such esteemed reputation in the cycling community. With a choice of flat rides through the countryside or famous climbs along the sunshine coast, there’s something for all abilities on the popular Balearic Island. Dedicate 2019 as the year that you discovered the Tramuntana mountains, Sa Calobra and Cap Formentor and you’ll find yourself returning very, very soon.

Spain (Girona)
Split in half by the shimmering River Onyar, Girona is one of the most beautiful places to stay in Spain, if not the whole of Europe. Whilst the gothic medieval city is inhabited by just 100,000 people, you’ll find more pro cyclists live and train here than any other European destination. Don’t be surprised to see them as you take on the Rocacroba, Vallter 2000, Els Angels and other inspiring climbs in the Spanish Pyrenees.

Tuscany
The Tuscan olive groves and vineyards provide a truly stunning backdrop to your cycling holiday. Enjoy a luxury stay in boutique hotels all over the region and spend your days touring on the bike. It’s custom to visit the hilltop town and UNESCO World Heritage Site of San Gimignano when in Tuscany. Make sure you taste the Pappardelle, just one of the delicious traditional pasta dishes served in the picturesque town.

The Canary Islands will, once again, be one of the most visited cycling destinations of 2019. Tenerife, the largest of them, is one of the most popular with the majestic Mount Teide dominating the landscape.
Smooth, undulating coastal routes surround the famous volcano in all directions, however, our favourite spot to stay is in Costa Adeje. From here, you can enjoy remarkable rides up the west coast where you’ll encounter Masca, the second most challenging climb on the island, only behind the testing slow burner of Teide. Views through the valley in Masca will leave you speechless. It’s a special route to cycle and would undoubtedly be one of your 2019 highlights if you decide to travel to Tenerife this year.
