The best airport to arrive into is Tenerife South. From there we will pick you up and take you to the stunning Jardin Tropical 4* hotel in Costa Adeje. The hotel has undergone major refurbishment in the last year and is now one of the leading hotels in Tenerife. Whether you want to take a dip in the pool with the island of La Gomera as your view, enjoy the chic wellness area overlooking the water or enjoy the ocean view covered outdoor gym, you will enjoy calm and luxurious surroundings. The hotel has a new bike room for bike storage and equipped with tools.
Tenerife is dominated by Mount Teide and so much of the island involves a lot climbing. We recommend an acclimatisation day and to head up the west coast towards Los Gigantes Valley. You can hug the coast through Adeje and head north before climbing from Tamaimo to Arguayo. The climb is relatively steady and you will pass up over lava fields before topping out and enjoying a lovely descent back towards the coast. A climb back up to the quieter roads of Tenerife gives you fantastic views over La Gomera before you descend back to your hotel. We love this ride as it’s a short 50km ride with 1,200m of climbing and a great introduction to the island.
If you’re in Tenerife, it’s likely you’re there for Teide. The looming peak of the volcano can be seen from nearly every point on the island and it dominates Tenerife’s landscape. Today, we recommend the beautiful climb through Vilaflor. You will head out from your hotel towards Granadilla before turning up towards the volcano. You will ride through Vilaflor, a sleepy and typically Canarian village on the slopes of the volcano. The climb from Vilaflor is relentless and a great test of your abilities. As you head into the national park, the slopes become darker with black volcanic rock, with vibrant green trees springing up from the hillsides. You have a choice of skirting the crater and descending, or making your way all the way to the cable car station at Teide. The ride home is an exhilarating descent zipping all the way down on almost perfect tarmac. The ride can be anything from 75km to 100km with between 1,400m – 2,000m of climbing depending on your preference.
Depending on what you achieved yesterday, you can ascend Teide from a different side or take on the Masca Valley.
If you choose Teide, we recommend heading up through the banana plantations just below Guia de Isora. Ride up towards Chio and enjoy an espresso in the cafe which has beautiful views over La Gomera. Then head straight up for an intense 40km of climbing into the crater. You can choose to skirt the crater’s edges or ride all the way to the centre of the national park where Teide’s peak proudly sits.
If you prefer an alternative route, the climb to Masca Valley is sensational. You can follow the road from Guia de Isora towards Masca or approach Santiago del Teide via the lower roads. We recommend riding up as early as possible as in the hieght of the season, Masca’s incredible views attract tourists from all over the island.
Today we will give you a return transfer back to the airport or if you prefer, you can extend your trip for as long as you like.
Get set for summer travel and enjoy this luxury Tenerife getaway. Visit the island of eternal Spring, a Mecca for cycling enthusiasts looking to soak up all year round warm temperatures. The volcanic island offers some spectacular views across the glistening Atlantic, especially from Mount Teide.
