With more and more families looking for a holiday with a little activity, cycling in Mallorca with the family has become incredibly popular. The options for families travelling to Mallorca are endless. Cycle paths make the cycling safe and you can simply ride when the family feel like an excursion, enjoying the beaches and other activities that the island offers when not on the bike..

Mallorca is bathed in sunshine nearly all year round. With an average of 300 days of Mediterranean sun per year, you can almost guarantee warm weather riding under the azure sky. Find out all about the weather in Mallorca here and see below for our favourite cycling routes that you can take with the family.

Travel from one beautiful town to another and head east along the coastal road to Alcudia. This stunning ride takes you through the horseshoe bay entirely on a 2-lane cycle path, with a distance of 20 kilometres in total. With no need to be on the road, this route is incredibly child-friendly and ideal for cycling in Mallorca with the family. There is also a bonus of magnificent ocean views and historic charm throughout the journey.

The route is completely flat, so it’s easy and relaxed to cycle by the port, where you’ll find shops and restaurants along the way. Experience beautiful boutiques, charming cafes and medieval houses. You will certainly appreciate the break if you stop somewhere to replenish. For authentic Mediterranean cuisine, Restaurant Celler Ca’n Costa Alcúdia is locally sourced and perfect for a lunch stop during the ride. From the 14th century wall which surrounds this area, you can walk up to a viewpoint offering views of the mountain range, sea, and the town itself. There will be a little extra time involved, but it’s worth it.

One of our favourite routes for cycling in Mallorca with the family is the journey from Manacor to Arta. The entire route follows the path of a disused railway line. With no traffic as it’s solely for walkers or cyclists, the area is completely safe for families looking to ride with no vehicular traffic. The 30km routes travels through Mediterranean forests, agricultural fields, and old stations in rural towns. Get a taste of rich Spanish cultural heritage as you travel through towns such as ant Llorenc des Cardassar, Son Carrio and Son Servera. The railway line is also close to the cyclepath that leads to Port Pollensa, where you can continue cycling traffic free to the town. Alternatively, you can gain access to a bike path to sand-filled beaches at Son Severa. Located very close to the coast, the route offers stunning views of the sea and beautiful nature.

This protected zone along the southeast coast is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca, Es Trenc. As well as having no buildings and dead quiet streets, you will find the area is serene and quiet. The road is incredibly quiet with only a small amount of local traffic so the road are safe for cycling with older children. Along with its other benefits, the cycle route offers beautiful views on both sides. In terms of accommodation for families looking for peace and proximity to Es Trenc, stay in Llucmajor. From here you can ride out to Cala Pi, a similar ride to Es Trenc with very little traffic. There is also the added benefit of Llucmajor being very close to the Coll de Randa so if you’re enjoying some riding with the kids, but fancy a challenge whilst they are round the pool in the afternoon, this epic climb will be literally on your doorstep.
