As the best cyclists in the world came together in France, the rest of the cycling community were locked to their screens in anticipation of the 2019 Tour de France route reveal and the coinciding Etape du Tour announcement. It didn’t disappoint.
On Sunday 21th July, thousands of riders will meet on the starting line in the French alps to take part in the 29th annual Etape du Tour. Starting in Albertville (446m), the 136km route heads south, running through the vibrant valleys before taking on the first major climb of the day. The Cormet de Roselend, sitting at 1967m, will feature for the 12th time on the Tour de France with the climb playing host to a number of memorable moments throughout the years. The climb made a feature just last year during stage 11 of the 2018 Tour de France so it is sure to receive a welcome return when the pro’s make a visit on the 27th July. Exactly a week before, the locals will undoubtedly be lining the streets as 15,000 riders ascend the 1967m mountain before moving on to the Cote de Longefoy.
At 1190m, the riders will be treated to exceptional views over the vibrant French Alps as they look to distract attention away from the burning sensation in their legs. Following the ascent of the Cote de Longefoy, the final ascent to Val Thorens will leave riders seeking a well deserved rest after an unforgettable day on the bike. Val Thorens, the traditional French town and location of our package accommodation, sits at an impressive 2365m. The views across the valley from here will provide the perfect end to the annual sportive. Enjoy the french cuisine and relive the ups and downs of the day (literally) with thousands of other riders.
We can’t wait for the 20th July. The French Alps are sure to provide everyone travelling with us with the ultimate road cycling experience. With accommodation in Val Thorens, guaranteed race entry, transfers, guided warm up rides and more, we’re confident that we’ve built the perfect package for anyone looking to attend the 29th Etape du Tour. If this wasn’t enough, the route will be ridden again by the professionals on the penultimate day of the Tour de France, therefore it is likely to play a major role in who finishes the 3 weeks wearing the famous yellow jersey.
If it’s anything like last year then it will be one of the highlights of the cycling year and, as you can tell, we’re already very excited!
