It’s funny, say the word Mallorca to someone and you could get 2 totally different responses. What images conjure in your mind? Package holidays and crowded beaches or quiet fincas and sleepy ports? It’s certainly the latter for us and we wanted to share with you the best locations on this wonderful island.
If you’re a new cyclist, we think basing yourself near Llucmajor is a great idea. Quiet brick red roads stretch out in front of you allowing you to escape to quiet coves and larger beaches such as Es Trenc. Visit in February when the almond trees are in full blossom and before any of the crowds arrive. You can get a great bargain at this time. If you’re with the family, check out the beaches of the north in Alcudia bay.
If you’re looking to visit old ports and beaches, our personal favourite for a less experienced rider is Andratx but if you’re felling adventurous and want to experience the glorious Tramuntana mountain range, then you have arrived at a cycling Mecca. Head out to Valdemossa and Soller before heading to Port Soller and the famous Sa Colobra climb.
Finally, if you haven’t ever experienced the north of Mallorca, then it’s got to be on your bucket list, whether you’re an experienced rider or not. Head up from Pollensa and follow the road all the way out to Cap Formentor. Cliffs plunge into the sea, hidden beaches are dotted off the main road and the ride takes you out to what feels like the end of the earth. Just check out the video below.
