Cycling Holidays in the Pyrenees

Things I love about cycling in the Pyrenees

  1. Mountains!! The glorious Pyrenees at it's most beautiful with famous climbs that are steeped with history. The Col du Tourmalet has featured in the Tour de France since 1910.

  2. I love to climb Luz Ardiden and drink some cold beers when I get back as the sun goes down over the mountains. Swap the beer for wine if you prefer and watch the sunset!

  3. A good tip is to have a picnic by a river on a recovery day, such a beautiful and relaxing way to enjoy your surroundings. Take a dip and cool off in the river after a ride.

Arrive & Depart At Any Time

How I spend my days in the Pyrenees

  1. Day 1

    15km total distance

It's always exciting arriving in the Pyrenees. The mountains are majestic and the journey from the airport only adds to the anticipation for our first big ride tomorrow. When we get to the hotel we drop our bags and head out for a coffee and crepe nearby. After our bikes are delivered to the hotel, we head out for a short ride to get a feel of the town.

  2. Day 2

    123km total distance

It's always best to get up early and head down to breakfast at the hotel; this is to avoid the heat later on in the day. We load up on carbs and coffee and head out in the saddle. The Col du Soulor and Col d'Aubisque loop is a fantastic way to really open up the mountains. It is one of the most stunning and rewarding experiences in the French Pyrenees, offering breathtaking landscapes, exhilarating climbs, and a true taste of Tour de France history. We stop for a crepe in Gourette and head home after a great day in the saddle.

  3. Day 3

    62km total distance

There are so many amazing climbs to choose from in the Pyrenees and a firm favourite is Luz Ardiden. It is one of the most iconic climbs in the Pyrenees, famous for its Tour de France battles and its spectacular switchbacks. It’s a pure climber’s challenge, with a steady gradient, tight hairpins, and stunning views. There are fantastic cafes in Luz Saint Sauveur and we stop for an iced coffee on the way home after another glorious day of riding.

  4. Day 4

It's really sad it's our last day so it's a short walk to stretch our legs. After our walk we head back to the hotel to shower, change and pack the last bits. We catch our transfer and say au revoir to the mountains.

What our Cyclists Say

Love Velo made a great recommendation of a hotel base for my cycle holiday in the Pyrenees. They were really helpful at all times, quick to respond and also shared some excellent routes on ride with gps that were challenging and accurate.

Awesome customer Service like it used to be. When planning my husband's 50th birthday and knowing very little about cycling I decided to try Love Velo and I can't recommend them, and the service I've received from James Danvers highly enough.

Abby

Eager to return to the Pyrenees, having gazed back at the snowy peaks as we cycled north in May this year, we sent an enquiry to Love Velo. Kevin's response and subsequent organisation of our short trip was friendly, helpful and very efficient. I have no hesitation in recommending this holiday. Superbe!
