How fit do I need to be?

Very! The high mountains are not to be under estimated. These are huge climbs and you need to train and prepare to climb them.

When can I climb the Pyrenees?

You can access the cols between about May and September. Either side of that the weather is too unpredictable.

My Pyrenees Highlights

I love the atmosphere in the Pyrenees, there is something joyful yet relaxing about the mountains, but it's the people that really make it special! Pop into a bistro for a cafe au lait and chat to the locals.
Col d'Aubisque, just one of my favourite climbs, there are many other great ones to enjoy too like Col du Tourmalet. The Col du Tourmalet is one of the most famous climbs in cycling and a true legend of the Tour de France.
I really feel on top of the world at the summit of Luz Ardiden. I love riding above the clouds and eating way too much bread and cheese!

How I spend my days

Day 1
20km total distance
When we arrive at Toulouse airport, transfers are available to take us to the hotel. After we get to the hotel we drop our bags and head out. It's always nice to settle in on the first day with a short ride and a coffee.
Day 2
100km total distance
We like to get up early for our first full ride day and we head down to breakfast at the hotel to fuel up. It's good to leave early in the morning as it can get really hot as the day wears on. We tackle the Luz Ardiden and Tourmalet climbs, both legendary routes, especially for fans of the Tour de France. This climb is a high altitude, switchback-filled test of endurance that rewards you with stunning views and a thrilling descent.
Day 3
123km total distance
On our last full day in the Pyrenees we like to take full advantage of the amazing climbs and great bikes. After breakfast we head out, early doors, for a Col d'Aubisque loop. Another cycle climb made famous by the Tour de France (there are many around here) offers a mix of stunning landscapes, challenging gradients, and dramatic drop offs. It’s a must ride for any serious cyclist looking to experience the magic of the Pyrenees.
Day 4
On our final morning we like to go for a short hike and take in the fresh mountain air before we head back to our hotel for a shower and change. Love Velo makes our journey home super smooth with an airport transfer, au revoir France!
