WE LOVEThe Valley of the Tears
Take on the epic Valley of The Tears in the middle of the island. The ride is a stunning series of switchbacks across 12.5km climb, at an average gradient of 11.1%. It's a hidden gem and offers one of the toughest continuous gradients in the Canaries, whilst providing stunning views across the island.

We can tailor make this trip for you
Day 1Arrival into Gran Canaria

Remember this trip can be tailored made and is completely flexible.

From Gran Canaria airport, we will pick you up and take you to your fabulous 4* Adults Only hotel. The hotel has a great pool where you can relax or you can head down to the beach at Maspalomas which is about 5 minutes by bike.

Day 2Cycle up to Soria

Gran Canaria is a similar profile to Tenerife in that the further you head inland, the more you will climb. Riding to Soria, the most popular route on the island, is no exception. Roads that look brand new twist past jagged hills and valleys all the way to the top of the mountain. Take a chance to refuel once at the summit, as there is a well frequented restaurant and the views are fantastic.

Day 3Take on the Valley of the Tears
The Valley of the Tears is one of the most revered cycling climbs in Gran Canaria.  The climb continues for 12.5km at an average gradient of 11.1% and so offers some of the toughest climbing on the island. The steepest 100m on the climb offers up a gradient of 25%!  The challenge is not solely the relentless gradient but also the heat.  However, if you are tough enough to take on the Valley of the Tears, then there are great photo opportunities everywhere, which are good excuses for stopping and having a quick break.  Our top tip is not to attack the bottom too hard – you will need to conserve your energy for later on!

Day 4Loop Up and Around Fataga

Gruelling climbs scattered throughout today’s ride let you know why some pro cycling teams choose to train here. Firstly though, a beautiful roll morth along the flat coastal roads. Like a snake, the road then slithers upwards, winding around mountains scaled with earthy rocks. From Fataga, just after the second ascent, feast your eyes upon the incredible expanse folding out around you – a valley worth the effort.

What to ExpectFrom guaranteed sunshine to luxurious coastal riding

Home to the Valley of the Tears, Gran Canaria is a great option if you’re looking for warm weather training. Like Tenerife, there’s plenty of climbing and with slick and well maintained roads, you can truly test yourself on the bike.

It is also a great destination for less seasoned riders, offering benefits to people with varying levels of experience. We recommend basing yourself in the south. Maspalomas is home to a huge number of hotels but for a quieter more luxurious stay, head a few km east to Meloneras.
