Welcome to one of the coolest cycling festivals Europe. Arrive into Girona and Love Velo will transfer you to your hotel. You can jump on a group ride today if you arrive early enough.
Today is the Hill Climb time trial. You will make your way to registration for 9.30am. The hill climb is a time trial up Els A€ngels to the monastery. Starting at 11am with staggered rider starts, it’s a 10.4km, 404m ascent against the clock. Think Sa Colobra in Majorca with just a little less elevation. After testing yourself on the climb, join the pasta party at 2pm back in town to swap stories and check out the leaderboards.
Today is yours or you can join the morning group ride at 10am. Setting off just half a kilometer from the hotel, it’s the perfect chance to ride with like minded people and discover the stunning Girona countryside. Alternatively, spend a day off the bike and explore Girona and immerse yourself in the local cafe culture. You will also be able to register for the Nocturne and Granfondo today. This evening, you are invited to the traditional Catalan meal from 8pm, to sample copious amounts of breads, meats, cheeses and of course paella!
Join the morning group ride at 10am, spin your legs and get ready for this evening’s Nocturne. Tonight, cycle hard and fast around the medieval city of Girona. The race, held at dusk, is 10 laps of 2.5km each. There are not many opportunities to ride a nocturne event and this nocturne allows you to harness your inner Belgian with a timed uphill section on cobbles! When you’re finished, join the post race party and trade stories of what it is like to compete in a timed, organised after dark race.
Today you can again join the daily group ride and then join the pre race party if you fancy a night out, or catch some zzzz before tomorrow’s granfondo.
Today is the main event, the Girona Gran Fondo. 125km with a gain of 1700m, this is not for the feint hearted. The route is breathtaking guiding cyclists on a ride through the Garrotxa Volcanic region with plenty of feed stations and support along the route.
After what we are sure you will think is one of the best cycling festivals in Europe, Love Velo will transfer you back to the airport.
The stunning medieval city of Girona is the jewel in northern Catalonia’s crown. From its gothic architecture to the shimmering River Onyar, this is a city that offers superb dining, cultural exploration and perfect base to ride through Catalonia or enjoy the Girona Festival of Cycling.
