The Taiwan KOMInformation

The Taiwan KOM is a famous 105km course that begins at sea level before climbing a total of 3,275m. The climb is made up of intricate twists, leg-burning gradients and rugged mountain views. These features, and the high altitude, combine to give the KOM it’s esteemed reputation. The fastest ever completion of the Taiwan KOM is 3:19:15 and was recorded by none other than Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali in 2o17. The acclaimed rider later said that he has “never ridden such a long and hard climb before in (his) entire life”.

You don’t have to be a Tour level cyclist to enjoy the Taiwan KOM. Every year, 600 amateur riders take on the challenge and conquer the mountain with the help of our experienced guides and the support of those around you. This trip is fully hosted and, in the lead up to the big race, you will be guided around the beautiful region on bike and on foot. The years of experience that our guides in Taiwan have will ensure that you are in perfect physical and mental condition going into the race on Day 6 of your trip.

Day 1Arrival

Today you will meet your guides and the rest of the group at the Les Suites hotel. Here, there will be a pre-tour meeting and you will be briefed on the week ahead. Explore the area and taste the local cuisines before resting up for the first day of riding tomorrow.

Day 2Taipei to Fuxing

You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and taken to the rural area of Fuxing. You will begin the ride with a short spell through the rolling and scenic hills. From there, the climbing gradually introduces itself as you ride parallel to the forests, moss and ferns that give the area a unique, Jurassic feel.

The exotic forest will, once again, provide you with exceptional views and the air will be clear and fresh. How's the Weather? in Taiwan

The SummerJune to August
Taiwan has a subtropical climate due to the Tropic of Cancer than runs through the middle of the island. Summers in Taiwan and typically hot and wet however, due to the small size of the island, the coastal breeze often has a positive, cooling effect. The average temperature during this time is 30 degrees. Thunderstorms and typhoons are most likely towards the end of the summer and tend to hit the east coast quite hard.
The AutumnSeptember to November
The average temperatures in Autumn are 25 degrees. Rain is always a possibility but it is less likely than it was in summer. As you reach the higher altitudes, rain becomes more likely and temperatures get cooler due to the constantly changing climate. Make sure you come prepared with clothing for all climates as the higher up you ride, the more unpredictable the weather will become.
The WinterDecember to February
Winter in Taiwan is often foggy and mild due to the northeasterly winds entering the island from Siberia. Temperatures can reach as low as 8 degrees although warm spells are still likely.
The SpringMarch to May
Temperatures increase again during Spring. The average temperature in Taipei is 25 degrees, meaning it is generally a comfortable temperature during the day.
