Your trip begins in Gran Canaria on the Saturday you choose to travel. Upon arrival, you will be picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel where you will be based for the next 4 days. There is no ride today as everyone takes some time to settle in and get their bikes sorted ahead of the first day on the bike tomorrow. Your hotel is a beautiful 4* residence in the south of the island. Relax, get a taste for the incredible food, chill out by the pool and enjoy your first day in the Canary Islands.
Today you’ll be introduced to the joys of cycling in the Canary Islands. Following breakfast at the hotel, jump on the bike and set off for what will be the perfect introductory day, riding a total of 54km and climbing 1,600m. This is the shortest distance covered over the week to take in the views, get to know your knowledgeable guides and enjoy the easier ride before the days get gradually more challenging throughout the week.
Enjoy a lunch in the quiet hills of Gran Canaria before returning to your hotel for a delicious dinner this evening. Rest up ahead of taking on the island’s famous climb tomorrow.
Today you will climb the Pico de las Nieves. Gran Canaria’s 1,949m climb is one of the most scenic amongst the Canary Islands and provides those who conquer the ascent with truly remarkable views above the clouds. At the summit, you’ll look out and see the peak of Mount Teide. Towering over the rolling hills of Gran Canaria and dominating the skyline, Tiede will be your next great challenge on this cycling holiday. Take some time to fully appreciate the views from the Pico de las Nieves before enjoying the twisting, smooth ride back down to your hotel on the south coast.
This will be a day that lasts with you forever and riding with your experienced guides will make it an even more enjoyable experience. The restaurant and bar will be a welcome sight after a challenging but rewarding 100km day on the bike.
Today is your last day of cycling in Gran Canaria and it will begin with breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy the food and fuel up before an incredible day on the bike. Today you will ride on roads you’re yet to explore, touring Gran Canaria one final time before moving onto its Canary Islands neighbour, Tenerife.
You will be transferred to Tenerife this afternoon following the morning’s ride. Here, after a seamless checking in process and some time to yourself, dinner will be waiting for you. You’ll have some time to settle in and get used to the new, but just as beautiful, hotel in Los Abrigos in the south of the island. With views over the Atlantic, this is yet another perfect base for the next 3 days on the bike.
Following breakfast at the hotel, day 4 on the bike will begin. Meet your guides and join the rest of the group before setting off into the shadows of Mt Teide. Depending on the weather and how the group are feeling, we will tailor these rides to ensure you get the best views and best experiences on the island each day.
One of the day’s options involves heading along the South West coast up towards Masca and the iconic Masca Ridge. This is one of the most scenic routes to follow on the whole island and, although a challenge, will leave you with lasting memories of cycling in Tenerife.
Today is the day that you’ll ride up to the highest point in Spain. Mount Teide is a slow burner of a climb with a long but gradual ascent all the way to its 3718m peak. Tenerife is a popular training ground for professional rides and this climb only goes to prove why. The return will be exhilarating as you enter and leave the different climates that surround the mountain.
Return back to the hotel with your group and guides where, over some well-deserved drinks and a meal, you can recount the day’s events and pride yourself in conquering such a significant and notable climb.
The final day on the bike is one you’ll love. Ride from your hotel in the south, around the base of Teide but with a gradual ascent up the side, before arriving in the north where you will be treated to a delicious, home-cooked Paella. This will be your last dinner with your group and your guides before returning back to your hotel for one more night. Relax in the sunny Atlantic one last time before you begin your departures tomorrow.
Sadly, the trip comes to an end today. If you want to extend your stay in Tenerife, this can be easily arranged, just let our cycling experience team know when you enquire about this trip. If you are heading back to the airport then our transfers will pick you up and take you there.
Home to the Valley of the Tears, Gran Canaria is the perfect option for those seeking warm weather training. The trip then moves on to Tenerife, the island of eternal Spring. It is a Mecca for cycling enthusiasts looking to soak up some winter sunshine and is used by hundreds of pro riders each year to train. The volcanic island offers some spectacular views across the glistening Atlantic, especially from Mount Teide.
