The Ultimate Guide to Cycling Holidays in Mallorca

10th August, 2018

Mallorca is undeniably the home of cycling and the go-to destination for experienced riders. But why is this island overtaken by 200,000+ cyclists every year? For anyone that’s never been but is thinking about going on a cycling holiday, here is everything you need to know about Mallorca.

The Roads

There’s a reason why thousands of cyclists choose to travel to Mallorca each year. Unlike cycling in the UK, the roads are traffic free, clear of pot holes, smooth, easy to follow and, generally, perfect. More experienced riders tend to stay in the north, based in Port Pollensa where they can explore the undulating roads surrounding the Tramuntana Mountain Range. Less seasoned riders and those looking for some more relaxed cycling will ride round the south, exploring the flat roads that run parallel to the islands’ southern beaches.Cyclists in Port Pollensa The views

Mallorca offers incredible scenic views round every corner. As the largest of its Balearic neighbours, it provides magnificent outlooks over the Mediterranean to the east and the Balearic to the west. Whilst you’ll find yourself taking out the camera at every new turn, our favourite views are in the north on the roads leading up to Cap Formentor. The lighthouse that sits at the end of the winding path is perfectly positioned atop the rocky cliffs. You can climb the beacon, look over the stunning Alcudia Bay and, if you’re lucky, see the coasts of Menorca which are roughly 125km away.View of the Cap Formentor lighthouse The Climbs

For the keen riders out there, who have probably already taken on the famous peaks, a challenge awaits you in Mallorca. Go up against 55,000 other riders who have peaked Sa Calobra and recorded it on Strava…try to beat the fastest time of 24 minutes and 54 seconds! This climb, along with Puig major, Coll de Femenia and others are what helps to distinguish Mallorca as the ultimate cycling powerhouse. Head out to the island with your cycling club or a group of friends and these mountains will determine who really is the best rider. No pressure!Climbs of Sa Calobra The Weather

What we love most about Mallorca is the weather. Cycling here is perfect in the early spring until late autumn meaning there is only a small period of the year where you can’t travel to Mallorca. Summer’s can be very warm but as long as you ride early in the mornings you can still enjoy an exceptional holiday on the island, taking in the pristine beaches and exploring the quaint towns in the afternoons.Beach of Mallorca Where to stay
