Meet in the afternoon and get to know your fellow cyclists over a warm up ride out of the city, where you’ll catch your first glimpse of rice paddies and visit the stunning White Temple.
After 40km of flatland it’s time for some climbs today, which will come in the form of the Wawee hills. Take in the panoramic views of sugar fields and farms, along with imposing mountains. There will be a 10km descent as you ride to Thaton, situated on the banks of the Maekok River where you will stay the night.
It’s a gentle start this morning until 25km into your ride when you’ll hit your first climb. Immerse yourself in the great outdoors and feel a sense of Thailand’s laid back culture as you pass water buffalo, local tribesmen and children. You’ll visit Chaing Saen, a village created in the 7th century, then cycle to the hotel where you’ll be able to see neighbouring Laos.
Today is a partial rest day as you’ll have the afternoon off to discover the local market or relax in the hotel. In the morning you will cycle along the Mekong River to Chiang Khong, where you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch.
Leaving Chiang Khong you will reach Pu Chi Fa and be rewarded with a stunning view across the rugged north. You will then enjoy 40km of flatlands before an ascent to 2,000m begins. As you climb, you will be rewarded with endless views of corn and strawberry crops before finishing the day in Phu Chi Fa.
You’ve been up so now it’s time to come down. The descent down the mountain will be exhilarating and soon mountains make way for the fertile valley. You’ll stop at the hot spring mineral Phu Sang waterfall where you can cool off and have a swim. Today will end at Phayao Lake and dinner will be served overlooking the lake. It’s a long day in the saddle today so you’ll enjoy your well earned rest.
This morning is free for you to do as you please. The afternoon cycle will begin gently around the lake, before conquering an 11km descent. There will be spectacular views across the valley and as the sun sets we will cycle along quiet lanes through majestic forests.
Prepare yourself for a challenge today. Cycle through windy roads up 1,400m with the sounds of nature in your ears. Take a break and swim in the Bua Thong Waterfall, but keep your eyes peeled for nipping crabs! You’ll take a transfer to tonights hotel in Chiang Mai.
Today is a loop route, with more than a few coffee stops. This route overlooks the ancient city of Doi Suthep and you will finish back in Chiang Mai.
Today its time for some rest and relaxation after a hard week’s cycling. It will be time to say goodbye to your fellow cyclists after an incredible trip.
Thailand’s northern mountains provide a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of its cities. Deep in the Thai highlands lie wondrous cultural treasures and stunning scenery framed by unexplored forests. You will head deep into the wilderness to experience empire ruins and the tranquil silence only broken by the occasional snapping twig beneath your wheels.
You will head towards the Laos border and the province of Phayao, into areas mostly unexplored by tourists and experience probably the most picturesque sunsets that Asia can offer.
