Arrive & Depart At Any Time

A Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1 - Arrive into Porto

Touch down in Portugal and get ready to start your adventure. You’ll be transferred from Porto Airport straight to your hotel in this vibrant, hilly city. Porto is a place where past and present mingle beautifully – think colourful townhouses, baroque churches, and of course, that famous Port wine. With grapes grown on the sun-drenched slopes of the Douro Valley and aged in charming riverside lodges, this is the perfect spot to kick off your journey. Soak it all in – the sights, the sounds, and the flavours.

  2. Day 2 - Castelo Rodrigo

Enjoy your morning exploring Porto at your own pace. Then, at 2pm, it’s time to leave the city behind and head inland to the beautifully preserved medieval village of Castelo Rodrigo. After your transfer, you’ll meet the local team for a bike fit and trip briefing. Get ready to step into Portugal’s rich history – this tiny hilltop village is packed with stories and centuries-old charm.

  3. Day 3 - Castelo Rodrigo to Almeida

    53km total distance

Today, you’ll ride out to the impressive star-shaped fortress of Almeida. Just a short pedal from Castelo Rodrigo, this village was once a key player in Portugal’s defences. The journey takes you across the high plains with sweeping views and into the very heart of the country’s historical backbone.

  4. Day 4 - Castelo Rodrigo to Juízo

    30km total distance

Pedal away from Castelo Rodrigo and follow tranquil backroads through fields of crops and rolling hills. As you climb up to Marofa, catch your first glimpse of the majestic Douro River system. Your destination is Juízo, a quiet little village that’s big on rustic charm. This is classic Beirã country – peaceful, authentic, and absolutely worth the ride.

  5. Day 5 - Ride the Countryside

    39km total distance

Today’s ride will transport you into a land of legends. First up is Marialva, with its powerful sense of heritage and ancient stone structures. Then, it’s on to the fairytale-like castle of Penedono, perched on a craggy outcrop. Whether you roll in from the north or the south, the silhouette of this medieval fortress is sure to take your breath away.

  6. Day 6 - Explore the Valley

    57km total distance

Your route today takes you deep into the Douro Valley, often called Portugal’s enchanted valley – and it’s easy to see why. As you descend into vineyard country, you’ll be treated to some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe. At the end of the ride, enjoy a guided tour and wine tasting at a stunning 18th-century estate. Legend has it, this is where Régua got its name. You’re not just cycling – you’re pedalling through living history.

  7. Day 7 - Peso da Régua Circuit

    37km total distance

Your final ride is a beauty. This scenic loop along the Douro River takes you to Lamego, home to the iconic Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. With a few gentle climbs and plenty of photo opportunities, it’s the perfect way to round off your adventure. Return to Régua with tired legs and a full heart – you’ve earned it.

  8. Day 8 - Departure

After breakfast, it’s time to head back to Porto. This might be the end of the trip, but the memories (and maybe a few bottles of Port) are coming home with you. Until next time – keep riding further.

What our Cyclists Say

Awesome customer Service like it used to be. When planning my husband's 50th birthday and knowing very little about cycling I decided to try Love Velo and I can't recommend them, and the service I've received from James Danvers highly enough.

I booked through Love Velo because the reviews were so good. I wasn't disappointed. Right from my first contact with LV they were easy to talk to and although I dithered (my first cycling trip abroad) they didn't press me. When I eventually confirmed my booking they took care of everything.

Everything about Love Velo has been faultless. From the initial notification of them teaming up with Le Col and to the pricing being unbelievable and then the customer service, top class. James, if all the staff are as attentive to every detail as you are then everyone will be as lucky as I have been. 100% at some point, hopefully in the near future I will be booking again with you guys. Thank you again
