My Girona Highlights

  1. Girona is gorgeous! It's full of history and culture, you can spend recovery days wandering the medieval town. Explore winding passages and bridges crossing the river Onyar.
  2. I love the food in Girona!! It is a food lover’s paradise, offering everything from family run gems serving traditional Catalan dishes to Michelin starred fine dining experiences. My favourite spot for breakfast is La Fabrica.
  3. I absolutely love cycling to Rocacorba and Sant Feliu de Guixols when I visit. Both routes offer stunning scenery, rewarding ascents, and a mix of challenging and scenic routes.
This is a trip based in a single location

My Recommended Itinerary

  1. Day 1 - Arrive into Girona

When I arrive in Girona I like to drop my bags at the hotel and head out into town. Girona is a stunning mediaeval city with incredible gastronomy so explore the city and take a walk over the River Onyar.

  2. Day 2 - Sant Feliu de Guixols

    103km total distance

Today, ride out to the coast and into the charm of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. You’ll earn your sea views with a punchy climb, but the reward is pure Mediterranean magic as you descend into this classic Catalan town.

Once there, soak up the atmosphere with fresh seafood, tasty tapas and maybe even a paddle at the shore. Then it’s a mostly flat cruise back – the perfect way to wind down after a ride with a view.

    Distance: 103km
    Ascent: 1,375m

  3. Day 3 - Rocacorba & Lake Banyoles

    90km total distance

This is hands down my favourite ride of the trip – a proper adventure up Rocacorba, paired with the stunning Lake Banyoles. Rocacorba has earned its stripes as a modern-day icon. It’s relentless, no doubt, but every switchback adds to the legend.

Lake Banyoles is the perfect counterbalance – serene, scenic, and ideal for a mid-ride coffee stop, whether you need fuel before the climb or a reward after. It’s a day that captures everything we love about riding here: challenge, beauty, and that unbeatable sense of discovery.

    Distance: 90km
    Ascent: 1,700m

  4. Day 4 - Els Angels

    68km total distance

Today’s ride takes you up one of Girona’s most iconic local climbs – Els Àngels. Just a short spin from the old town and you’re straight into the forest, winding your way through shaded switchbacks and ever-changing gradients.

It’s not a monster in terms of altitude, but it’s got plenty of bite and loads of character. The views over the Catalan countryside are well worth the effort, especially if you head up the unpaved track at the summit. Don’t miss the chance to grab a coffee at the Santuari de la Mare de Déu dels Àngels – the perfect mid-ride pause.

    Distance: 68km
    Ascent: 1,135m

  5. Day 5 - Departure

I think 4 nights is a great amount of time in Girona so today is check out day for your return airport transfer, or you can lengthen your stay for more adventure.
