My Girona Highlights

  1. I love Girona because of the versatility of riding. It has prefect road and gravel riding that is as accessible and easy to navigate.
  2. I love the food in Girona!! Great coffee, if you know where to look, wonderful food and if it's your thing, loads of history to absorb.
  3. There's plenty of great riding a stone's throw from the city limits. You can explore the Catalan countryside from a very cycling-friendly base

Accommodation

I like to stay at Nord 1901 Hotel when I go to Girona.

Great Bikes

I always go for a carbon road bike for my training. In Girona there is a choice from Colnagos to Cannondales with Di2 set ups.

Airport Transfers

Getting from the airport to the hotel is always smooth and easy with transfers straight from the airport.

Digital Route Pack

You will receive a curated set of digital routes for you to download to a GPS enabled device.

My Recommended Itinerary

  1. Day 1 - Arrive into Girona

I prefer to catch an early flight on my first day of the holiday - it means I can maximise cycling opportunities! Girona is brilliant for road riding, with plenty of great routes a stone's throw from the city limits. This is what I love most about it, you can explore the Catalan countryside from a very cycling-friendly base and go as long or as short as you like. I catch a transfer from the airport to my hotel, drop my bags and get out riding as soon as I can.

  2. Day 2 - Els Angels

    68km total distance

On my first full day here I choose the iconic El Angels route, it's a gorgeous ride that takes you through the national park just outside Girona. I get up early and grab breakfast at the hotel. I load up on some much needed calories and grab a couple of spare pastries for mid-ride snacks later on. As you leave the city behind and start climbing into the mountains, it really is a special feeling. After a day of challenging climbs and beautiful views, it feels good to get back to the hotel to shower. I always try to find a good tapas spot for my first night in Spain, the food in Girona is so good!

    Distance: 68km
    Ascent: 1,135m

  3. Day 3 - Rocacorba & Lake Banyoles

    80km total distance

For my last day I take a bit of a longer route to north of Girona, via Lake Banyoles, and back into the city early afternoon. You can also ride Rocacorba as the lake is at the foot of the climb. After getting breakfast early, I head out on the saddle ready to tackle some gorgeous climbs. Cycling around Lake Banyoles (Estany de Banyoles) is a beautiful, offering a mix of flat, scenic routes and some optional hilly sections for those wanting a challenge. On the way back to town I pass through the ancient village of Palol de Revardit for a drink and rest. Catalonia really is the most stunning place to ride.

    Distance: 80km
    Ascent: 1,500m

  4. Day 4 - Departure

I think 3 nights is a great amount of time in Girona so today is check out day for your return airport transfer, or you can lengthen your stay for more adventure.

The Rocacorba climb was superb and you can see the resemblance with Sa Calobra in terms of distance and gradient. Huge thanks to Tom, Mark and Matthew from the Customer Service Team who provided a great friendly service. Highly recommended.
