My Girona Highlights

  1. Girona is simply stunning. Brimming with history and culture, it’s the perfect place to explore on your recovery days. Wander its winding alleyways and discover bridges arching gracefully over the River Onyar.
  2. The food scene in Girona is an absolute dream. Whether you're tucking into hearty Catalan dishes at local favourites or indulging in Michelin-starred magic, every meal is unforgettable. My go-to breakfast spot? La Fabrica – it never disappoints.
  3. Every time I’m in Girona, I make a beeline for Rocacorba and Sant Feliu de Guíxols. These rides serve up breathtaking views, punchy climbs, and a perfect blend of challenge and beauty.

I recommend the Hotel Ciutat de Girona & Apartments or the Nord 1901 Hotel.

My Recommended Itinerary

  1. Day 1 - Arrive into Girona

When you land in Girona, there’s only one thing to do – drop your bags and hit the town. This mediaeval gem is packed with charm and mouthwatering eats, so stretch your legs, soak up the atmosphere, and stroll across the River Onyar.

  2. Day 2 - Els Angels

    68km total distance

Today’s ride is all about the local legend – Els Àngels. Just a short spin from Girona’s old town and you’ll find yourself climbing through forested slopes on this winding gem. It’s not the biggest ascent out there, but it’s got bite – think punchy gradients, twisty hairpins and ever-changing terrain. You’ll ride beneath canopies of trees before the views open up over the stunning Catalan countryside. Don’t miss the unpaved stretch to the top – and definitely stop for a coffee at the Santuari de la Mare de Déu dels Àngels.

    Distance: 68km
    Ascent: 1,135m

  3. Day 3 - Rocacorba & Lake Banyoles

    90km total distance

This is hands down my favourite day of the trip – the climb up Rocacorba paired with a spin around Lake Banyoles. Rocacorba is a real test: steep, relentless and now a bit of a local legend, even though barely anyone had heard of it a couple of decades ago. The lake adds a touch of serenity to the ride, with its crystal-clear waters and peaceful setting. It’s the perfect spot to grab a coffee, whether you’re fuelling up before the climb or celebrating after conquering it.

    Distance: 90km
    Ascent: 1,700m

  4. Day 4 - Sant Feliu de Guixols

    103km total distance

Today’s route takes you out to the coast and down to the charming town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. You’ll tackle a punchy climb on the way, but the views over the Mediterranean make every pedal stroke worth it. Once you roll into town, you’ll find that classic Catalan vibe – seafood, tapas, and sunshine. Dip your toes in the sea, take a breather, then enjoy the mostly flat spin back to Girona.

    Distance: 103km
    Ascent: 1,375m

  5. Day 5 - Departure

I think 4 nights is a great amount of time in Girona so today is check out day for your return airport transfer, or you can lengthen your stay for more adventure.

The Rocacorba climb was superb and you can see the resemblance with Sa Calobra in terms of distance and gradient. Huge thanks to Tom, Mark and Matthew from the Customer Service Team who provided a great friendly service. Highly recommended.
