My Girona Highlights

  1. Girona is gorgeous! It's full of history and culture, you can spend recovery days wandering the medieval town. Explore winding passages and bridges crossing the river Onyar.
  2. I love the food in Girona!! It is a food lover’s paradise, offering everything from family run gems serving traditional Catalan dishes to Michelin starred fine dining experiences. My favourite spot for breakfast is La Fabrica.
  3. I absolutely love cycling to Rocacorba and Sant Feliu de Guixols when I visit. Both routes offer stunning scenery, rewarding ascents, and a mix of challenging and scenic routes.
This is a trip based in a single location

My Recommended Itinerary

  1. Day 1 - Arrive into Girona

When I arrive in Girona I like to drop my bags at the hotel and head out into town. Girona is a stunning mediaeval city with incredible gastronomy so explore the city and take a walk over the River Onyar.

  2. Day 2 - Els Angels

    68km total distance

Today I’d recommend riding the iconic local climb of Els Àngels. Just a short warm-up from Girona’s old town and you're straight into the forested ramps of this winding beauty. The climb itself isn't alpine in scale, but don't let that fool you. It’s punchy, ever-changing and full of character. Tight hairpins, shaded woodland stretches and sweeping views of the rolling Catalan countryside. Make sure you head up the unpaved section at the summit and stop for a coffee at the Santuari de la Mare de Déu dels Àngels.

    Distance: 68km
    Ascent: 1,135m

  3. Day 3 - Rocacorba & Lake Banyoles

    90km total distance

My favourite ride and day of the trip is usually this one - the climb to Rocacorba coupled with Lake Banyoles. Rocacorba is relentless and is a bit of an icon nowadays, despite it being relatively unknown about 20 years ago. the lake is also stunning and a great place for a mid ride coffee either before or after Rocacorba.

    Distance: 90km
    Ascent: 1,700m

  4. Day 4 - Sant Feliu de Guixols

    103km total distance

Today I'd recommend riding to the coast and to Sant Feliu de Guixols. You have a bit of a climb which gives you incredible views over the Med before you drop down into town. The coastal town is typically Cataluyan, serving seafood and tapas wherever you look. Paddle at the water's edge before a relatively (!) flat ride home.

    Distance: 103km
    Ascent: 1,375m

  5. Day 5 - Departure

I think 4 nights is a great amount of time in Girona so today is check out day for your return airport transfer, or you can lengthen your stay for more adventure.

The Rocacorba climb was superb and you can see the resemblance with Sa Calobra in terms of distance and gradient. Huge thanks to Tom, Mark and Matthew from the Customer Service Team who provided a great friendly service. Highly recommended.
