How do our self guided holidays work?

Accepted Answer

With most of our self guided trips, we will take care of everything you need except the flights. If you’ve booked airport transfers, our friendly drivers will be waiting for you and of course the hotel(s) we organise will be perfect for a cycling holiday. If you’ve booked bike hire, be sure to check where you’re getting it from (that will be on your confirmation) as it might be delivered to your hotel, or might need you to pick up from the bike shop. We will also provide you with a set of routes to discover the best cycling, fully curated by our expert route team. If you’re moving from hotel to hotel, we can of course also provide you with luggage transfers.

How do our guided holidays work?

Our guided holidays usually include full van support and guided riding, as well as accommodation and bike hire. Check the website or give us a call for specific information about a particular trip.

How fit do I need to be?

Accepted Answer

This depends on the trip you choose.

On our self guided holidays, you’re in control. You can ride as much or as little as you want. We will always advise you on the best destination and so we will give you the best advice and suggestions on gradients and climbs in the area that you choose.

We will provide you with a range of routes so you can ride varying distances with different ranges of gradient. You can simply pick the routes that best suit you.

On our guided holidays, most flat bar hybrid cycling holidays are ridden at a relatively leisurely pace. It is an active holiday not a race so wherever possible, you will cycle at your own pace, regrouping regularly at meeting points along the route. On our training camps or daily guided rides, we will advise you of the speed the rides are ridden at and in most destinations, we will have 2 or 3 different riding groups, cycling at different speeds.

What do the bikes come with?

Most bikes come with a mini pump, spare tube and tyre levers. However, this is dependent on destination so please check before you travel, and we always recommend bringing your own mini pump just in case.

Can you fit bikes to suit me?

Accepted Answer

We will size your bike according to your height. We do this because frame sizes differ between manufacturers. We are also able to take 3 specific measurements called your ABCs so that when you arrive on your holiday, your bike will be set up in advance with only a small amount of adjustment, if any, required. Please note that we do not setup bikes in accordance with a bike fit.

Are the bikes Insured?

As a cycling community, we all want to ensure that every cyclist has the best ride they can. Therefore the bikes need to be returned in the condition that they were provided. To achieve that, you must note that during the period of hire, the bicycle and any equipment rented will be your responsibility and you will be held liable for any damage, theft, or loss of the bicycle or equipment.

What about Travel Insurance?

It is a condition of travel that you have an adequate travel insurance policy in place for your holiday. We don't recommend any provider but we do work with Yellow Jersey Cycling Insurance and they offer our customers 15% off using LOVEVELO15 at the checkout.

Question 9

How will I navigate the routes?

Accepted Answer

We will provide you with digital routes, all of which are held as part of an ‘Experience’ online. You will be able to navigate these from your phone or download to a GPS enable device such as a Garmin or Wahoo. The ‘Experience’ provides all your routes, named by location, distance and elevation, as well as a guide for each route. The guide will give you a description of each daily route, as well as giving you our top tips for the day such as the best cafe stops, places to see or towns to visit. You will be able to access your Experience before travel to view the routes and check out where you’re going, to make the most of your time on holiday.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Cycling is an inherently dangerous sport and it is a condition of Love Velo's insurance policy that suitable protective headgear is worn when any cycling activity is undertaken on Love Velo holidays. Please note that neither our bicycle suppliers nor we provide helmets for hygiene reasons. It is therefore your responsibility to ensure you bring your own helmet on the trip and that you wear it during all cycling related activity.
