Your Day by Day Itinerary

  1. Day 1 – Arrival in Portugal & Chaves Welcome Ride

Fly into any international airport in mainland Portugal, but if you’re after charm and character, we recommend landing in Porto – a city famous for its cobbled streets and world-renowned port wine.

On arrival, the adventure begins. You’ll be transferred to Chaves – the official starting point of your epic N2 ride. If Porto is calling your name, why not add an extra night to explore its vibrant streets and riverside views? We can happily arrange that for you.

Once in Chaves, you’ll check in to your hotel, meet your fellow riders, receive a full trip briefing, and get all your gear sorted. Time permitting, you can even explore this historic town by bike before dinner.

    Included:
    • Dinner
  2. Day 2 – Chaves to Lamego

    101km total distance

Today you’ll ride through the unspoilt Trás-os-Montes region, stopping off in the elegant city of Vila Real before reaching the Douro River at Peso da Régua. This region is the birthplace of Port wine and the rolling vineyards that hug the hillsides are nothing short of breathtaking.

From here, it’s time to climb. The day ends in Lamego, a city steeped in history and packed with character – think baroque architecture, ornate churches, and charming plazas.

    Today's ride is 101 km | 1,900 m climbing

    Included:
    • Bed & Breakfast
    • Dinner
  3. Day 3 – Lamego to Barragem da Aguieira

    125km total distance

The day starts with a monster climb up to Bigorne, the highest point of the entire route. You’ll earn every view, we promise.

From there, the terrain rolls gently toward Viseu – one of Portugal’s cultural gems and a definite highlight of the ride. Then it’s time to head south along the scenic Dão River before hopping onto the Ecopista do Dão, a glorious greenway following an old railway line. Today’s finish is at the peaceful Aguieira Dam.

  4. Day 4 – Barragem da Aguieira to Pedrógão Pequeno

    90km total distance

After a gentle warm-up along the Mondego River, it’s time to tackle a rugged central Portugal stage. You’ll climb through Vila Nova de Poiares and Góis, cycling past the traditional schist villages that pepper the hillsides. This is raw, authentic Portugal at its best.

    Today's ride is 90 km | 2,000 m climbing

    Included:

  5. Day 5 – Pedrógão Pequeno to Montargil

    125km total distance

Today brings variety – from the mountainous terrain of central Portugal to the rolling landscapes of the Ribatejo region. The first half is hilly and tough, taking you through Sertã and Vila de Rei. But as you approach the Tejo River, things start to flatten out and the pace picks up.

You’ll end the day in Montargil, with the scent of cork trees and the promise of warmer southern winds.

What our Cyclists Say

Awesome customer Service like it used to be. When planning my husband's 50th birthday and knowing very little about cycling I decided to try Love Velo and I can't recommend them, and the service I've received from James Danvers highly enough.

I booked through Love Velo because the reviews were so good. I wasn't disappointed. Right from my first contact with LV they were easy to talk to and although I dithered (my first cycling trip abroad) they didn't press me. When I eventually confirmed my booking they took care of everything.

Stephen

Everything about Love Velo has been faultless. From the initial notification of them teaming up with Le Col and to the pricing being unbelievable and then the customer service, top class. James, if all the staff are as attentive to every detail as you are then everyone will be as lucky as I have been. 100% at some point, hopefully in the near future I will be booking again with you guys. Thank you again
