Cycling Holidays to the Stelvio & Mortirolo

What to Expect on This Trip

Your stay will be in Bormio, immediately south of the Passo dello Stelvio. A hugely popular ski resort in the winter, Bormio becomes an outdoor enthusiast's paradise in the summer. You will see hikers, extreme sports enthusiasts and of course cyclists. Enjoy the local area when you're off the bike and visit the town's very posh thermal springs that have been famous since Roman times. This trip is self guided although we are able to organise guiding and support on any of our cycling tours in Italy.

Arrive & Depart At Any Time

A Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Our Stelvio and Mortirolo trip is entirely flexible and this is just our suggested itinerary. Arrive into one of the Milanese airports and we will pick you up and take you to Bormio. We work with many hotels in Bormio from budget to luxury so just let us know what you prefer.

  2. Day 2

We have 5 epic rides to choose from and our favourite is a true bucket list ride. You will climb the Stelvio from both Bormio and Prato climbing over 3,500m in the day.

Starting in Bormio, the climb is 22 km with an average gradient of 7%. You will skirt the Swiss border as you ascend to the summit with the final 3km of the climb ramping up to an average of 10% topping out at 2758m. You will then turn on your heels and head on a thrilling descent into Switzerland before coming face to face with arguably the most famous side of the climb, from Prato. The ride has a whopping 48 hairpins averaging 7.5% over 25km.

Ride the Stelvio's famous 48 bends
  3. Day 3

This is another tough day in the saddle with a loop ride taking you up the Mortirolo and the Gavia.

You'll ride out of Bormio and head for the toughest climb in the region, the Mortirolo from Mazzo. The climb never dips below 8% average gradient and averages 11%. The climb is pretty relentless but you will pass cycling royalty as you come up to the Marco Pantani memorial, before the road picks up the road from Grosio. From here, the climb settles down and you will summit with views over Alpine pastures.

The descent takes you towards beautiful meadows before a gentle climb to Pezzo. From here you have 17km averaging 7.5% to the top of the Gavia climb, before a long descent all the way back into Bormio.

Test yourself on the Gavia & Mortirolo
  4. Day 4

Today we will take you back to Milan or you can choose to extend your stay with us.

What our Cyclists Say

Awesome customer Service like it used to be. I admit that I'm one of many people who have taken to booking holidays and flights direct to save a few quid. But when planning my husband's 50th birthday and knowing very little about cycling I decided to try Love Velo and I can't recommend them, and the service I've received from James Danvers highly enough.

I booked through Love Velo because the reviews were so good. I wasn't disappointed. Right from my first contact with LV they were easy to talk to and although I dithered (my first cycling trip abroad) they didn't press me. When I eventually confirmed my booking they took care of everything.

Everything about Love Velo has been faultless. From the initial notification of them teaming up with Le Col and to the pricing being unbelievable and then the customer service, top class. James, if all the staff are as attentive to every detail as you are then everyone will be as lucky as I have been. 100% at some point, hopefully in the near future I will be booking again with you guys. Thank you again
