All our holidays are completely flexible so this itinerary is a suggestion to make the most of your Mt Teide cycling holiday.
Fly into Tenerife South and from there, we will take you to the south west of the island where you will have the perfect base from which to climb Mount Teide.
You will have come to Tenerife to ride Mount Teide but we recommend that your first day is used to acclimatise the island and its terrain. Head towards Los Gigantes Valley on the west coast with the option of climbing from Tamaimo to Arguayo. This is a good ride as whilst there are no flat routes on the island, this Tenerife cycling route is a short 50km ride with 1,200m of climbing.
We think that the easiest route up Mt Teide is from the west (easiest not easy!). We suggest that today you climb Teide from Adeje as it offers the least average gradient. Your climb begins by heading up through the banana plantations into Guia de Isora and then on to the Black Mountains. As you climb, La Gomera will appear below you. Climb higher and pass the Mirador de los Poleos where the views are bretahtaking before summiting Mt Teide on the other.
The most beautiful route up Mount Teide is from the south east. This Mt Teide cycling route starts in El Medano and heads up towards Granadilla and then Vilaflor. Both are typically Canarian and offer stunning views over the ocean. As you climb into the crater, the ride is shaded from the sun by large pine forests with the occasional break giving you beautiful views over the south west of Tenerife.
The south western ascent starts in the busy beach towns of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. This route up Mt Teide climbs through Arona and Vilaflor again, but on a slightly different route. Vilaflor is the highest town in all of Spain and you will enter the crater and summit Mt Teide from here.
Today we will give you a return transfer back to the airport or if you prefer, you can extend your trip for as long as you like.
Mount Teide is one of the best known climbs in Europe and attracts cyclists from all around. You can climb Mt Teide on 3 different routes from the south and experience some spectacular views across the glistening Atlantic.
