Cycling Holidays in Murcia

What to Expect on This Trip

Cycling in Murcia offers quiet riding in beautiful weather. Bathed in sunshine nearly all year round, Murcia is the home to pros such as Alejandro Valverde. Whilst the climbs might not be famous, they're almost traffic free and offer superb cycling. Head up into the Sierra Espuna, discover the Portman hills and enjoy a post ride coffee overlooking the Mediterranean.

Arrive & Depart At Any Time

A Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrive into Murcia and you will be picked up and taken to Los Alcázares on the coast. Settle in to your hotel, go for a walk along the beach or just enjoy the sunshine.

  2. Day 2

We suggest that you acclimatise yourself to riding in Murcia, with a loop of the La Manga resort and Cartagena. Your ride will take you south towards the famous golf course and resort of La Manga. From there, you will head to towards Portman and into the Portman Hills. You will descend the Green Mile, a 1 mile stretch of road that has a green cycle lane beside it. This is the staple of Alejandro Valverde who lives in Murcia and you can follow in his tyre tracks down to Caratagena Bay. Stop for a coffee in Cartagena (we recommend the Coffee Lab) overlooking the water before a climb to Cruz Chiquita. From there, you will loop back round riding back into Los Alcázares.

  3. Day 3

    135km total distance

Today is a big day in the saddle as you will ride back towards the Portman Hills, climbing Cruz Chiquita, a punchy 6km climb to get your heart rate up. From here, you will ride north past Roldan before you start to climb gradually. The climbing continues on for about 20km before reaching Alto Garruchal where you can grab a coffee at the cafe before a great 10 km descent to Torreaguerra. You then have a 12km ascent, averaging 3% to Cabezo de la Plata. From here, it's all downhill back to Los Alcázares.

  4. Day 4

Today we recommend that you ride up the down the coast to the the Calblanque Regional Park or head north to ride the reverse side of Cabezo de la Plata. All our routes are provided in GPX format so just pick the one that you like the most.

  5. Day 5

Today you will be taken back to Murcia airport but remember, our trips are entirely tailor made and bespoke so this itinerary can be altered in any way you want.

Reviews

What our Cyclists Say

Awesome customer Service like it used to be. I admit that I'm one of many people who have taken to booking holidays and flights direct to save a few quid. But when planning my husband's 50th birthday and knowing very little about cycling I decided to try Love Velo and I can't recommend them, and the service I've received from James Danvers highly enough.

I booked through Love Velo because the reviews were so good. I wasn't disappointed. Right from my first contact with LV they were easy to talk to and although I dithered (my first cycling trip abroad) they didn't press me. When I eventually confirmed my booking they took care of everything.

Everything about Love Velo has been faultless. From the initial notification of them teaming up with Le Col and to the pricing being unbelievable and then the customer service, top class. James, if all the staff are as attentive to every detail as you are then everyone will be as lucky as I have been. 100% at some point, hopefully in the near future I will be booking again with you guys. Thank you again
