NEVER TAKEN A CYCLING HOLIDAY? THEN CHECK OUT NADENE’S EXPERIENCE HERE

Written by Nadene B on 29th January, 2018

We often speak to fellow riders who have never experienced a cycling holiday and therefore don’t know what to expect. When fellow rider, Nadene, called the office last year to enquire about a surprise 50th birthday present for her partner, she was experiencing exactly that trepidation. What would the riding be like? would the hotel be what she expected? And what would happen if something went wrong with the bike?

Fortunately, these are questions our experienced sales team can advise on. Nadene went to Mallorca late last year and this is her story, complete with a few pictures that she kindly sent us. If you are curious about what a Love Velo holiday to Mallorca looks like, read on………

Both being keen cyclists and having participated in sportives for several years we thought we would try a cycling holiday. As being new to this we thought we would give Love Velo a try, and we’re glad we did.

Apart from the flights, they organised everything else, from transfers, hotel accommodation and the most important part, the bike hire.

We stayed at Fergus Style Hotel & Spa in Port de Pollensa, Mallorca. The hotel was clean and tidy and all inclusive. When we arrived, we didn’t have to wait long for our bikes to be delivered to the hotel. There are two large safe locker rooms to store your bikes.

Our first day we decided to ride to “The Lighthouse” AMAZING RIDE! The roads are brilliant, felt so safe. The hire bikes were great also, ideal for all those hills or should I say mountain climbing.

Everyday we cycled, building up the miles each day. Alcudia is only a few miles away from the hotel, easy to get to, just follow the cycle path adjacent to the beach and before you know it you’ve arrived at the sweeping Alcudia Bay.

Another day we cycled to a lovely old fashion town called Petra. Stopped for drinks in a lovely cafe in the old town. Cyclists everywhere and the normal bustle of local working people. A great cyclist shop there too “Bikedress Mallorca”

The highlight for my other half was cycling the “Sa Calobra”  or as he called it the Cobra!! Mallorca’s most fabled ascent, rising for just over 2,000 feet over the course of six miles. The road is draped on the mountainside like a coiled snake in a series of steep hairpins, this is just a taster of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains. The best ascent and climb ever encountered. Too scary for me though, didn’t realise I was petrified of heights!!

Definitely gonna face my fears and ride the “Sa Calobra” next time. Which will be April 2018. Yes we loved it so much we’ve booked to go back again!!

GREAT HOLIDAY, GREAT WEATHER, AMAZING CYCLING …. Thanks LOVE VELO
